I absolutely love this album. To me, it’s the perfect “summer” album — upbeat, humorous, and happy. It leaves me with a smile.I like Dylan’s more recent albums a lot (especially this and Time Out of Mind), and I think this really is about as good as his absolute best stuff throughout his career. If you prefer his older stuff, then maybe this album won’t be for you, But really, I think this album could be appealing to a pretty broad audience of people that like rock.

Later Dylan is always very interesting and complex. Needs many hearings to fathom the sublet intricacies, even as it is now in the country blues idiom. For example, the changed up meter on “Cry A While” draws you in like the sounds emanating from the rustic door of a rural honky tonk. Other favorites for me are “Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum,” “Mississippi,” “High Water,” … Take your time, and see if it doesn’t give you the chills of some of Faulkner’s descriptions of the people and the countryside of the South.
