It’s not worth upgrading from the DVD version to blu-ray. I now own both and can say that the blu-ray version sounds better (thanks to DTS HD) but everything except a couple of new, extends interviews are still NOT widescreen. The additional material in and of itself does not justify rebuying No Direction Home again.

Great documentary. This will prove to be a timeless part of history and culture classes for decades to come, I think. How the old timey, blues, country and folk traditions helped Dylan become the greatest songwriter of modern times, if not ever. Scorsese was the perfect director for this. I’ve read that it was ultimately micromanaged and even scripted beforehand by Dylan’s team and the interviews were predetermined mostly by them, but Scorsese still made a beautiful work of art out of the footage and the interviews. When this first aired on PBS, there were rumors floating around online that another volume would be done to cover the Basement Tapes through Rolling Thunder Review era. Wish that would come to be!
