Amazing grace how sweet the sound! Traditional gospel flavors the background as the singer reaches for the heavens with songs like What Can I Do for You; Covenant Woman; Solid Rock, and Saving Grace.

Great album, I’ve had this edition a few years now. It was actually remastered in 2013 for a box set of all his albums, but the remaster is not available on CD outside of the huge boxset. It is available on mp3 and itunes, however. I have streamed the mp3 version of the remaster, compared it to the mp3 rip of this album, and really, it seems all they did was make it louder. So this version is just as good as the remaster, just turn up the volume (also true for many other remasters). What the album really needs is a remix, but they didn’t do that. Also, if you are into Dylan’s gospel albums also check out the 2003 compilation “Gotta Serve Somebody”, it’s his gospel songs covered by great gospel singers and ensembles. I only discovered it recently and it’s a great collection.

This is an awesome album; a low-key country-blues intro builds into the monster-jam of “Saved” and continues across a great span of Southern-gospel-rock tracks. The energy slows slightly towards the end of the album but that adds more emphasis on the lyrics and message… The overall feel is as if one is attending an outdoor tent revival with Dylan at the helm.
